Vai has accomplished studio producer (he owns two: "The Mothership" and "The Harmony Hut" ) and his own recordings combine his signature guitar prowess with novel compositions and considerable use of studio and recording effects, such as the Eventide H3000 ultra harmonizer and Digidesign's Pro Tools Hard Disc recording system and plug-in effects architecture.

Vai also helped design his signature Ibanez JEM series of guitars. They feature a hand grip (fondly referred to as a "monkey grip") cut into the top of the body of the guitar, a humbucker-single coil-humbucker DiMarzio pickup configuration with several different brands of pickup including Steve's Special, EVO 1, EVO 2 , and Evolution. He also uses Ibanez's Edge locking tremolo system , as well as an elaborate and extensive "Vine of Life" inlay down the neck. Steve also has a 7 string model designed by him named Ibanez Universe. The Universe later influenced the 7-string guitars used by Korn and other heavy metal bands to create nu-metal sounds in the late 1990s. He also has a signature Ibanez acoustic, the Euphoria.

Steve Vai has also worked with Carvin Guitars and Pro Audio to develop the Carvin Legacy line of guitar amplifiers. Vai wanted to create an amp that was unique and equal in sound, versatility, and affordability to any guitar amp he had previously used.

Over his long musical career, Steve Vai has used and designed an array of guitars. He even had his DNA put into the swirl paintjob on one of his signature JEM guitars, the JEM2KDNA, in the form of his blood. Only 300 of these were ever made. Nowadays he mainly uses his white JEM7V, which is inscribed with the letters "Evo", mainly in order to allow him to distinguish between the guitars he uses onstage which are practically identical, his "Flo" guitar however is equipped with a Fernandes sustainer pick-up in the neck.

He also has a guitar named "Mojo" in which the dot inlays are blue LED lights. Additionally, he has a custom-made triple-neck guitar that has the same basic features as his JEM7V guitars. The top neck is a 12-string guitar, the middle is a 6-string, and the bottom is a 6-string fretless guitar with a Fernandes Sustainer pickup. This guitar was featured on the G3 2003 tour on the piece I Know You're Here.

Vai's effects pedals include a modified Boss DS-1, Ibanez Tube Screamer, Morley Bad Horsie, Morley Little Alligator Volume pedal, Digitech Whammy, and an MXR Phase 90. His flightcases are labelled "Mr. Vai". He used a number of rack effects units controlled via MIDI, but used a floor-based TC electronics G system instead for the Zappa Plays Zappa tour.

An announcement on Sum 41's official website states that the new album can be expected to be released on July 24th 2007.

Hello everyone. We have finished our new album. We still don't have a name for it yet though. It will be coming out (around mid-2007). We are now about to start auditions to find a touring guitarist. We have no idea how long this will take so I can't really tell you when we will be back on tour. If all goes well we should be back playing shows in mid-April. We will keep you all updated here as frequently as possible. Thanks for all your support and I can't wait for you to hear this album. — Deryck Whibley

On April 16, 2007, absolutepunk.net revealed that the title for the new Sum 41 album will be Underclass Hero, and will be released on July 24, 2007. The first single from the album will be the title track, "Underclass Hero." The single is set to hit radio airwaves on May 15.

On April 17, 2007, the band also released a song on iTunes called March Of The Dogs. The site states,

lyrically it's one of the more political songs that are on the album, following in the style of our songs Still Waiting and We're All to Blame. I wanted to let you all know that this will NOT be a political record. This is just one of our favorite songs on the album so we wanted to give it to you early since the record won't be out until the summer. ” — iTunes

On May 5, 2007, Sum 41 leaked the new single "Underclass Hero" on their MySpace site.

Travis Landon Barker (born November 14, 1975) is an American drummer, who achieved most of his fame by drumming for the band, Blink-182. He currently is the drummer for +44 and has also played for side projects Box Car Racer, Transplants and Expensive Taste.

In 1998, Travis Barker was touring with the band, The Aquabats, under the stage name "Baron Von Tito". During this tour, the original drummer for Blink-182, Scott Raynor, left the band. Travis was asked to fill in, requiring him to learn the entire set (over 20 songs) in less than two hours and perform them at that night's show. Travis' efforts earned him much appreciation and respect, and an offer to join Blink-182, which Barker accepted.

With Barker, Blink-182 released their best selling album to date, Enema of the State (1999), followed by Take off Your Pants and Jacket (2001), and Blink-182 (2003). After 7 years of drumming with Blink-182, in February 2005, the band announced they are taking an "indefinite hiatus".

Andy Summers was just out of college in Southern California in the early 1970s when one of his guitar students offered to sell him a beat-up 1961 Fender Telecaster® that had obviously been modified by a previous owner.

Summers had already had some modest music business success in the late ’60s Britain. Lately though, he’d stuck mainly to his classical guitar studies, and hadn’t played an electric in quite a while. Strangely, however, something about this particular Telecaster grabbed him. As he put it himself in his 2006 memoir, One Train Later:

When I start to play it, something stirs within me … it shakes me … I find that I can’t stop playing it; this guitar sparks something in me and I have to have it.

Summers bought the guitar for $200, and you and the whole world know the rest. Back in London a few years later, he joined a noisy so-called punk outfit called the Police that rose to become the biggest band in the world, thanks in no small part to the deftly innovative and influential sounds Summers conjured from that beat-up Telecaster.

Hit after hit was recorded and performed on it—“Roxanne,” “So Lonely,” “Walking On the Moon,” the breathtaking “Message In a Bottle,” “Don’t Stand So Close to Me,” “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” “Every Breath You Take,” “Wrapped Around Your Finger,” “Synchronicity II” and “King of Pain.”

Now, in 2007, Fender couldn’t be more proud and excited to unveil a very special 250-instrument Limited Edition run of the Fender Custom Shop Andy Summers Tribute Telecaster as part of the Fender Custom Shop’s legendary Tribute Series. It’s a note-perfect replica of the 1961 Tele® that Summers used to help propel the Police to untold heights of worldwide pop superstardom.

The prototype, built by Fender Custom Shop Master Builder Dennis Galuszka over the course of a year, is currently in use with Andy now. The guitar features the same “eccentric” modifications that the original had when Summers first bought it, most of which were unchanged throughout the nonstop work and excitement of the Police years:

* Ferocious humbucking neck pickup.
* Bridge pickup mounted in the body rather than in the broken brass (not chrome) bridge plate.
* Control plate-mounted mini-toggle phase switch.
* Body-mounted preamp on/off mini-toggle switch (the original preamp “died,” Galuszka said; the Custom Shop has recreated the Police-era preamp).
* Rear-mounted overdrive unit controlled by a third knob below the two traditional Telecaster volume and tone controls.
* “Soft” brass bridge pieces.
* Schaller® tuners.

The alder-body, maple-neck guitar also features an immaculately recreated highly worn finish, with extensive chips, scratches, dings and nicks identical to the original, and, as Galuszka noted with a grin, “Getting lacquer to crack is no small feat.”

Pick it up, and it’ll take you back. The unforgettable slashing staccato opening chords of “Roxanne” (back pickup, no distortion); the off-the-wall solo in “So Lonely” (out-of-phase position, plus overdrive), the space jam of “The Bed’s Too Big Without You” (front pickup plus Echoplex), and so much more.

“It’s a fire-breather,” Galuszka said. “It’s mighty. Andy really, really loves it.”

So much so, in fact, that Summers played the first of the 250 replicas when the Police once again electrified the music world by reuniting on Feb. 11, 2007, to open the 49th annual Grammy® Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Further, he'll play it during 2007’s highly anticipated worldwide Police reunion tour. It promises to be a thrilling musical event featuring one of rock’s most innovative guitarists playing a spot-on replica of one rock’s most distinctive guitars.

Taking Back Sunday embarked on their North American Tour on February 22, 2007 at Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, PA with supporting bands Underoath and Armor for Sleep. This tour was sort of a throw back where they featured older songs from previous albums, and they played the song "Brooklyn (If You See Something, Say Something)" for the first time live.

In April 2007 they supported Lostprophets on their UK arena tour, along with Aiden.

On April 6, 2007 it was confirmed by Linkin Park's Joe Hahn that the band will be part of the 2007 Projekt Revolution tour with Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, HIM, Saosin and others.

Their first release came in 2001 with the Taking Back Sunday EP and featured Antonio Longo on vocals, John Nolan on guitar and backing vocals, Eddie Reyes on guitar (the original founder of the band), Jesse Lacey on bass, and Mark O'Connell on drums. This CD was distributed at Taking Back Sunday shows, but never achieved any noteworthy success. Following a change of lineup (Antonio Longo to Adam Lazzara and Jesse Lacey to Shaun Cooper) they released the follow-up album Tell All Your Friends, which was produced by Sal Villaneuva. The album gave the band a first taste of success in the scene. After the release, they played with bands such as Brand New and The Used, as well as performing as a short stint on the 2003 Vans Warped Tour.

"MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT IN STORES MAY 15!"

Los Angeles, California
United States

On March 6, 2007, Warner Brothers announced that Linkin Park’s third album (not including the Remix albums Reanimation and Collision Course or the live album Live In Texas), titled Minutes to Midnight, would be released Monday May 14 in all countries except the United States, which would receive the album on Tuesday May 15. The first single was released April 2, and is titled “What I've Done”.

“We have put more into the new album than anything we have ever done before”, says bassist Dave “Phoenix“ Farrell. The band spent over 14 months in the studio and wrote more than 101 song demos in the making of Minutes to Midnight, an album which vocalist Mike Shinoda sees as, “a breakthrough in the development of the band's sound”.[21]

"This was a year-and-a-half long process of really hard work and experimentation in the studio that yielded about 150 rough songs", guitarist Brad Delson told Billboard.com. The band recorded 17 tracks and is now whittling down which ones will make the final cut. “Not only is this album incredibly diverse, but the depth of the material is really strong”, Delson says.[22]

The title is a reference to the Doomsday Clock,[23] and lead singer Chester Bennington said that the band is writing about "things they wouldn't have touched a few years back."

Mike Shinoda explained that Minutes to Midnight is composed of sounds made by a practically Arcade Fire-esque array of instruments including banjos, marimbas and vintage guitars and amps. “People have always tried to lump us in with the whole rap/rock stereotype, but we don’t intentionally want to be part of that scene. We’ve always had our own personality and I think it really shows on this record.”[citation needed]

While there are no special artists featured on the album, Shinoda shares a co-producing credit with the Grammy award-winning producer Rick Rubin, “I was raised on his music and to now be working with him, to be mentored by him, is such a huge thing.”[citation needed]

Linkin Park recently performed six songs for AOL Sessions, which are available to view here. The setlist includes: What I've Done, No more Sorrow and Given up from Minutes to Midnight, Faint and Breaking the Habit from Meteora and In the End from Hybrid Theory.

The video for “What I've Done” premiered on MTV and Fuse, the week of April 2.[24] What I've Done made a huge "Hot Shot" debut on the Billboard Hot 100, where it debuted at #7 for the chart week of 04-21, making it by far the band's highest debut for a single on the chart. "What I've Done" also debuted at #1 on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart, only the third song ever to do so, following What's The Frequency, Kenneth? by R.E.M., and Dani California by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The song also hit the top of the iTunes Music Store, along with the music video.

Linkin Park was featured in the MTV Battle Of The Videos facing Evanescence and Lil' Mama. After two weeks went by, the voting ended, with Linkin Park's video for "What I've Done" winning the battle, after taking 56% of the votes. On April 19, What I've Done was presented as the winner, and the video was shown.

They will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, on May 12th.
